The Mercer Island Mountain Bike Team is off and running in the Fall 2022 Washington Student Cycling League. The MI MTB team has grown to 32 athletes for the fall season – with 16 new riders on the team. The team has 23 middle school athletes and 9 high school athletes for the season. The team will compete in the two fall league races including Port Gamble on September 25th and Loup Loup on October 2nd. These are cross-country mountain bike races ranging from approximately 5-15 miles depending on the rider’s age and category.
You may see part of the team practicing on the island on Wednesday evenings as we work on improving bike skills. Give them a shout of encouragement!
Registration closed for the season today. The team offers a longer spring season that will open early in 2023.
The team runs thanks to active volunteers. This fall the team is coached by 8 parent volunteer coaches. The team can always use additional volunteers both on and off the bike. Contact the team if you have time to invest in helping kids have this opportunity.
