Bike Skills Area Re-Opening Needs Your Support

Riding in Bike Skills Area

The Parks and Recreation Commission hosted a Special Video Meeting to discuss the Bike Skills Area on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. The result of the meeting was positive. The commission supported the proposal to re-open the park as quickly as feasible implementing a limited design.

The re-opening will require a funding allocation to implement a professionally designed track. The topic will be presented in an upcoming city council meeting. The topic is tentatively scheduled as a July meeting agenda item.

We need MIMBA supporters to ask for a faster resolution. Please email Mercer Island City Council members (council@mercerisland.gov) to show support for this funding need and ask that the time be addressed as quickly as feasible. Also, have your kids who use the areas get involved and send their own message that shares how important the area is to them. Additionally, sign the petition to support the re-opening of the Bike Skills Area.

While the goal is to re-open the current location, the recommendation is to begin a process to locate an alternate location on the island as a long-term home for a dedicated bike skills area. This process will take several years to complete. It is important to re-open the existing location to provide the required time to complete this process.
